US Airways Barclays Mastercard

Just recently applied and got approved for the US Airways Barclays Mastercard which offers a 60k mile bonus (40000 easy) as per this public link.

This is the best offer Barclays has put out for their US Airways Mastercard and while its not as competitive as some of the other 50k, 75k and 100k offers that came out in 2011, this might be good to consider for broadening you card issuers (especially if you're heavy on the Chase and Amex and even Citi cards). Also, Barclays typically pulls from the Transunion credit bureau which is usually pulled less and thus shouldn't dent your credit scores at other bureaus.

US Airways offers great redemption rates for Star Alliance partners such as ANA or Asiana (think 90k miles for business class to Asia!) and often offers 100% point bonus on point purchases every few months.

This credit card offer comes with:
  • Free 40k miles after first purchase
  • Free 10k miles for balance transfer in first 90 days
  • Two $99 companion tickets annually
  • Preferred check-in
  • One complimentary US Airways Club day pass
  • 2 miles per $1 spend on US Airways related purchases
  • 1 mile per $1 spend on everything else
  • $89 annual fee

Overall, the point bonuses aren't bad. The first 40k miles are the easiest I've seen with just the first purchase and no minimum spend required. The two $99 companion can be quite useful if you fly US domestic with a partner and the complimentary US airways day club passes could also come in useful then. While the earn rate of 1 mile per $1 on all other purchases unrelated to US airways is a bit weak in comparison to say the Chase British Airways visa, the host of other benefits make the case for considering this card even if you don't use it for everyday spending. The only thing you might want to consider is the annual fee which is rather hefty at $89.

Disclaimer: This card is only available to US residents.  Also, I am not paid by Barclays to endorse their products.
