Located just next to Central Park is the towering Trump International Hotel & Tower where you can find probably one of the best prix fixe lunches in New York at Jean Georges' Nougatine cafe. As we were situated at a table next to the window, you can see a nice pleasant view of Central Park.
The selection for the lunch prix fixe was quite wide and the choices looked very appetizing.
The tuna tartare was absolutely smashing with the spicy radish and ginger marinade giving this dish a delightful taste.
The shrimp salad was a little bit plain for me, considering this was being served at the 3 Michelin-star Jean Georges property although the mix of the shrimp, avocado and dressing did taste quite agreeable.
We both decided to have the red snapper and it was an unabashed success as the fish was crunchy on the outside and deliciously tender on the inside. The squash underneath lying in a pool of sesame and chili oil was a perfect complement.
The desert was a rather unique baked pear in syrup with sorbet ice cream, which had a very interesting texture and tasted superb. I would definitely recommend trying this if you have a chance.
As one of the more well-known celebrity chefs, Jean-Gerge Vongerichten has been richly decorated with awards some of which are shown here.
I just want to remind you though, if you are in New York, first, to make an advance reservation as they do get quite booked up and second, dress for the occasion if you don't want any looks. As we had not packed any semi-formal attire for the trip, we just made do with jeans and running shoes - which attracted quite a few disapproving stares from the maitre d' to to the servers - not that we really minded. Bon appetit!
